Investigation Into Missing Montana Teacher

January 13, 2012, 10:05 PM by Derek Olson

Investigation Into Missing Montana Teacher
RAPID CITY, SD - Rapid City police are questioning a man in connection with the death of a Montana math teacher.

Forty-three-year-old Sherry Arnold from Sidney was last seen a week ago Saturday.  Police have one man in custody in Williams County, North Dakota, and questioning another in Rapid City.

It's news that's sent shock waves through the tight-knit community of nearly 5,000 people.

Arnold disappeared last Saturday morning after leaving her Sidney, Montana, home to take run.

On Friday, the FBI announced it believes Arnold is dead.  It's a tragic end to a week of searching, praying and hoping for the popular math teacher and coach's safe return.

Volunteers scoured the ground all around Sidney until the searches were called off on Wednesday.

Two men are being held in connection with Arnold's death; a 47-year-old man who was arrested in Williston, North Dakota, and a 22-year-old man who is in custody in Rapid City.

The FBI is handling the case but at this time isn't releasing any other information on those in custody or their connection with the area.

Authorities did say that it was a tip from the public that led to Friday's tragic developments. We will be sure to give you more details on the 22-year-old suspect's connection to the Black Hills as they become available.

This article has been revised to reflect the following correction:
Ms. Arnold is from Montana, not Rapid City as was earlier indicated in the headline. The FBI believes she is dead and asking for help to find her body.
