This week marks the 40th Anniversary of the 1972 Rapid City Flood, known as the worst natural disaster in South Dakota’s history.
On this edition of Inside KELOLAND, we talk with former Rapid City Deputy Fire chief Dean Reichert and flood survivor Perry Rhan about surviving the flood and the search and rescue efforts they were involved in only hours after the flood.
We also talk with Pennington County Emergency Manager Dustin Willett about how the flood changed Rapid City and how it’s better prepared for a natural disaster like this now.
