An inmate is hospitalized and on life support for injuries suffered after an apparent fall. The fall happened at the Jameson Annex to the State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls on Saturday, September 21.
A 45-year-old inmate was found lying unconscious on the floor of a housing unit just before 2:00 p.m. Staff members assessed the injuries and began CPR. The inmate was transported by ambulance to a hospital with head and neck injuries.
According to witnesses, the inmate fell from the second floor of the housing unit to the first floor, because of a medical condition.
The Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident.
The name of the inmate is being withheld until the family has been notified.
