Inmate Caught After Short Escape

An inmate from the Minnehaha County Corrections Center had a brief taste of freedom on Tuesday.

Ryan Eldon Quartier broke out a window to escape the facility on West Russell Street in Sioux Falls.  A Corrections Officer was outside at the time and saw the 42-year-old walk away from the building.

He reported the escape before following the inmate. A passerby spotted Quartier near the Sheraton Hotel and reported seeing a suspicious person.  Minnehaha County Sheriff's Deputies and Sioux Falls police responded and took Quartier back into custody.  Quartier was caught about 15 minutes after escaping.

Quartier was originally being held on Burglary 2nd degree and Grand Theft Charges from Lincoln County.  A new charge of escape will be added and that case will be forwarded to the Minnehaha County State's Attorney for review.
