The owner of a sawed-off shotgun used in a motel parking lot slaying last year has been sentenced to jail and probation.
49-year-old Rodney Hickey of Chamberlain was sentenced Tuesday to 180 days in jail with an option for electronic monitoring.
Circuit Judge Wally Eklund says he could not overlook the effect Hickey's illegal weapon had in the death of 33-year-old Eustacio Maruffo in 2014.
Maruffo died in a motel parking lot from a single blast to the chest from the gun Charles Birdshead took from Hickey's motel room.
Maruffo died in the South Dakota Rose Inn parking lot after a struggle with Birdshead.
Eklund sentenced Birdshead to 45 years in prison in January.
