The weather caused plenty of problems during the morning commute in Sioux Falls.
Police responded to five separate crashes at an intersection just west of Interstate 229. A semi got stuck at Benson Road and Potsdam Avenue and several vehicles slid into each other while trying to avoid the truck.
Sioux Falls Police Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said officers responded to 39 crashes from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday morning in the city.
People traveling by air didn't fair any better. Many flights were canceled or delayed out of the Sioux Falls Regional Airport because of icy conditions on the runway.
These icy surfaces made doing anything outside dangerous. We caught up with one woman who fell twice while she was shoveling her driveway. Another had a strategy to stay upright. She took “penguin steps” as she walked outside.
