IOWA CITY, IA -
The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe is asking the Iowa State Archaeologist to study the site where the Lyon County casino will be built. Archaeologist John Doershuk received a letter from the tribe Wednesday saying the casino site is near the ancient Blood Run burial grounds along the Big Sioux River.
While the developers have already hired a consultant to study the area, Doershuk will also review records from the site to determine whether that's the case.
Doershuk says the only way construction could be stopped is if human remains are found there.
