The spring storm stretching across much of South Dakota has prompted officials to close a long stretch of Interstate 90.
Interstate 90 is closed from Rapid City to Sioux Falls, effective immediately.
Department of Transportation officials say this long segment of I-90 will remain closed until conditions improve and crews are able to clear the roadway.
Strong winds and possible heavy snow overnight Tuesday into Wednesday will cause additional deterioration and hazardous driving conditions with zero visibility, icy roads and blowing and even drifting snow.
SDDOT warns when snowplow crews stop, the roads will quickly become blocked and travel conditions will deteriorate.
Officials will assess road conditions as early as possible on Wednesday morning to determine when some segments of I-90 can be re-opened.
