Lewis Drug is teaming up with The Banquet in Sioux Falls to make giving back a little easier this holiday season.
The Banquet in Sioux Falls tries to find different ways to help out those who use its services. This year, hygiene products are in high demand.
"Every day at the Banquet we have folks come in asking for a tooth brush or tooth paste, some shampoo, or lotion. And typically, all we have to offer them are the little hotel sample sizes that folks would gather for us when they're traveling," Madeline Shields with The Banquet said.
The bags are filled with items such as tooth paste, shampoo and other necessities for all ages. Kelsey Junget is a student at Augustana and says these practical gifts make a lot of sense.
"I think that's really good too. Because a lot of the time they don't really have the money to afford that either. So something that is maybe not necessarily a gift, but they can definitely use is still a great present to get," Junget said.
You can buy the bags for just $10, although many of them are worth much more than that.
"It's just a break even kind of thing. And the community is actually purchasing the items for the guests at The Banquet," Shields said.
"It's great. There's a lot of people, especially at Christmas who don't give gifts. And I think a lot of us take it for granted that we're so blessed to have the ability to give gifts and receive gifts," Junget said.
Once you purchase a pre-made pack, located by the hygiene aisles, all you need to do is drop it in the box near the exit.
An easy task to change someone's holidays.
"A lot of folks say, 'Why would you want shampoo or lotion for Christmas?' Well, if you don't have those items, they are a necessity and people really appreciate the gift," Shields said.
