Hy-Vee Foods and Sanford Health will give back $145,000 to local football teams and youth athletic organizations in the region as a result of this year’s Legends events, officials from both organizations announced Thursday.
The 2012 amount brings the money raised by the Hy-Vee/Sanford Legends grant program to an eight-year total of $958,000.
The goal of the Hy-Vee/Sanford Legends program is to provide a learning opportunity for young student-athletes to grow and be inspired in the world of sports by providing different sporting clinics and camps. Each year, celebrity athletes who represent the Legends goals--quality, integrity and character--are brought to Sioux Falls.

This year’s $145,000 will be divided in half to support the football camp grant program (high school teams who supported the Celebrity Football Camp) and the free sports clinics grant program (youth athletic organizations).

Grant Process: (Football Camp)

Each high school team which had a minimum of seven players participate in the football camp will be entered into the high school campers’ pool. From there, each team/program will receive a specific amount back to their football program per player for each student-athlete registered at the camp under their school’s name.
The football camp partner, Augustana, will also receive a grant based on its participation, camp leadership, coaching staff and use of its wonderful facility.
