Hurricane Sandy Kills 16, Millions Without Power

Hurricane Sandy Kills 16, Millions Without Power

At least 16 deaths are being blamed on Hurricane Sandy, which has knocked out power to an estimated 6.2 million people across the East Coast.

The storm first hit New Jersey with 80 mile per hour winds Monday night and brought a 13-foot surge of seawater at New York City.  That forced officials to close subway stations and tunnels.

The superstorm lost its hurricane status Monday and is not expected to last long as it moves into western new York Tuesday night and into Canada Wednesday.  While the eye of the storm has passed much of the area, they'll still be dealing with the power loss for what could be weeks to come.

Preliminary estimates show the total cost of damage for the storm will be between $10 billion and $20 billion which could make it the most expensive storm in US history.
