Hunter Bork Has Cancer Again

November 30, 2011, 10:03 PM by Don Jorgensen

Hunter Bork Has Cancer Again
Hunter Bork, the Dakota Wesleyan University track star who lost his leg to cancer, is back in the hospital.

He is undergoing chemotherapy treatment once again, but this time for a tumor on his neck.

It's a familiar, but undesirable place to be for 21-year-old Hunter Bork. He's back in a hospital undergoing chemotherapy. Doctors found a tumor on the back of Hunter's neck after he began experiencing severe pain.

"It's big, on the right side, and it's kind of wrapping around my spine and it's eating at the bone and they are kind of worried about my spinal chord," Hunter said.

This spring we watched Hunter run with his prosthetic leg at Howard Wood Field. This summer he set the American record for high jump at the U.S. Paralympics.

But all that is behind him now as he takes on cancer, once again.

"It sucks that I have cancer and all, but I'd rather know I have it and fight it rather than ignore it," Hunter said.

Hunter's positive attitude is an inspiration to his friends and family. In fact, he joked about his cancer diagnosis when he posted this status on Facebook. "What has two thumbs and has cancer......... give up...... THIS GUY WHOOOT WHOOT"

"I got really mad when he first told me he told me as a joke he told me he didn't have it at first, then he was like no I do so he brought me way up and then pushed me way down and I was like, 'Okay I'll talk to my professors my nursing professors'. I talked to them about it, I got down in the dumps, but now I'm coming back around now that he's in treatment, I got a positive outlook on it now, but it took me a little while," Hunter's girlfriend Amy Dekok said.

And while it's an emotional setback, Hunter is confident he will beat this cancer too.

"I have a positive outlook on it, I think he can fight it, he's strong, he fought it once he can do it again," Amy said.

"I don't see any difference, stick it out, do what I did last time, go through it and beat it again," Hunter said

Hunter just started his chemotherapy treatments this week. He will continue them for the next 27 weeks.
