South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers handed out 260 citations Tuesday during "Operation Safe," a saturation patrol aimed at reminding drivers to make safe decisions during Independence Day travels.
Troopers also handed out 779 warnings, responded to two injury crashes, nine non-injury crashes and helped 49 drivers who were stranded.
A combined one-day effort with the Minnesota Highway Patrol along a stretch of Interstate 90 in June resulted in 153 citations and 408 warnings.
