Hughes County Commissioners say they want an explanation before paying an expert witness in an election fraud case being prosecuted by the attorney general's office.
The commission has decided to delay paying a $4,440 bill submitted by a handwriting expert. The expert is being used in the case of former U.S. Senate candidate Annette Bosworth.
Bosworth is charged with six counts each of perjury and filing false documents.
The case is being tried in Hughes County because the petitions were filed at the Secretary of State's office in Pierre.
Commissioner Norm Weaver says it's not right that the attorney general should prosecute a case in the county and then ask the county to pay the bill.
