Huether Wants Second Vote On Tattoo Shop Beer License

November 21, 2012, 2:27 PM by Ben Dunsmoor

Huether Wants Second Vote On Tattoo Shop Beer License
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether wants the city council to reconsider its vote from Tuesday night that granted the Vishnu Bunny tattoo parlor in downtown Sioux Falls a malt beverage license.

The council voted 4-3 to give the business a beer and wine license. Council chairwoman Michelle Erpenbach did not vote because she was absent from the Tuesday meeting.

Vishnu Bunny wants the license so it can serve beer and wine at bi-monthly artist shows and performances.

Huether says he wants the council to reconsider the vote at the next meeting on December 4 because the wrong address was listed in the notification letter that went out to the neighbors of Vishnu Bunny. Huether believes surrounding businesses did not have the proper notification that the tattoo parlor wanted a malt beverage license.

Huether also says that city ordinance does not allow anyone under the influence to give a tattoo to someone and city ordinance also bans anyone under the influence from getting a tattoo.

“This is just an accident waiting to happen,” Huether said.

The council can reconsider a vote at their next meeting, but one of the four council members who voted in favor of granting the malt beverage license would have to come forward and ask for reconsideration. That would mean council members Kenny Anderson Jr., Jim Entenman, Greg Jamison or Kermit Staggers would have to reconsider their vote.

KELOLAND News will have much more on these developments later today on KELOLAND News and KELOLAND.com.
