Huether Shares Events Center Vision
October 4, 2010, 3:07 PM
SIOUX FALLS, SD -
Mayor Mike Huether shared his vision for a future events center in Sioux Falls with the public on Monday afternoon.
Huether says it would be an arena configuration that would seat up to 12,000 people.
He would like to see it built at the same location as the Arena and Convention Center and attached to those facilities. Huether says building it at that site will capitalize on existing infrastructure. He believes the Arena location is the most palatable and popular with the public.
The mayor says it will cost just under $100 million to build an events center. He proposes it be paid for with cash reserves, bonds and private entities. Building the events center will cost $90 million, it will be another $5 million for furniture and fixtures, and it will cost $4.5 million to create parking.
