HS Football Returns To KELOLAND

HS Football Returns To KELOLAND

The glow of the Friday night lights has returned to KELOLAND. Football fields are once again packed full of players looking to be stars and stands are full of excited fans and proud parents.

"Very exciting. My son is a senior and he's a starter, so we've been waiting for this time," LHS parent Julie Large said.

"It's very exciting. The kids work really hard. I have a senior this year, so this is kind of a last hurrah for our family in terms of football, so we're really excited," Brandon Valley parent John Reinschmidt said.

Before their game begins, Brandon Valley supporters gathered outside Howard Wood Field to ring in the new season with a tailgate celebration, only adding to football game atmosphere.

"It doesn't take much in terms of Brandon Valley High School support to get a few people together and kick things off. It gets the parents together, it gets the students together and everybody's really excited for it," Reinschmidt said.

For parents of Lincoln High School players, they know their sons have high expectations for their season, and they are all carrying big smiles seeing them take the field for the first time this year.

"There's been a lot of talent on that sideline for a long time. They actually get a moment to shine and that's what's been fun to see. We've seen these boys grow up," Large said.

It's more than just about football for these parents and fans. It's about an entire community coming together to cheer on their students.

It's the same level of excitement for every activity that carries their school name.

"I think it's just the community we breed at LHS. We're all supporting each other in a lot of different activities in the year. The school spirit is amazing," Large said.

"Whether you're in the fine arts, the band, athletics, the community gets involved and the parental support is amazing and I just think that's what makes South Dakota athletics special," Reinschmidt said.
