How To Prepare For Election Day

November 2, 2012, 4:59 PM by Sammi Bjelland

How To Prepare For Election Day
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

It's been busy at the Minnehaha County Auditors office. But the steady stream of absentee voters could mean less congestion on November 6.

"That is the good thing about absentee voting, besides being convenient, it takes the stress off the poll workers on election day," Minnehaha County Auditor Bob Litz said.

Even though there are lines, there are things you can do to make the voting process go smoothly. First of all, come prepared.  Bring an ID and do your homework.

"Try to inform yourself about what you're voting about before you go down there because if you don't, you'll spend longer at the poling booth and of course that will make the line go longer. So we'd appreciate if you'd inform yourself before you get there," Litz said.

Election officials would also appreciate it if you be careful what you wear.

"If you've got a button on for somebody or a t-shirt, we're going to ask you to remove that or we've got an old sweater that you can put on over your t-shirt. You want to be very careful about not appearing to be advertising for any candidate or issue," Litz said.

If you aren't quite sure where you are supposed to vote, Litz says the best thing to do is call.

You can also go online or stop by the auditor's office and pick up sample ballots and a pamphlet that explains the questions being proposed on the ballot.
