LYON COUNTY, IA - Tornadoes that hit Iowa late last night caused a major path of destruction.
One area that suffered damage is Sheri Stratman's farm. She and her family were home when the tornado struck. They heard strong winds and rain, and they went to the basement for cover.
“When we came up, I expected to see some trees down, you know because I could see that with the straight line winds and I looked out the kitchen window and I could see the barn,” Stratman said.
The Stratman's had a dozen buildings on the farm, and most were destroyed. The storm toppled and uprooted lots of trees, but the Stratman's house was untouched and had no damage.
“Lots to pick up, lots to clean up and a lot to be thankful for,” Stratman said.
Dozens of neighbors showed up today to help with the cleanup. The Stratman's raise hogs and they believe most of their livestock survived.
