Hot Weather Causing Change In Summer Routines

July 15, 2012, 3:32 PM

Hot Weather Causing Change In Summer Routines
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

So far this summer has been a hot one. We’ve even seen some triple digit temperatures. That’s causing some people to make changes to their traditional summer routines.

“We stay inside during the day and plan all of our physical activity at night,” Shari Brasel said.

But Brasel’s made an exception to her new routine as she sits under the shade at Drake Springs Pool in Sioux Falls. The refreshing water doesn’t make the Sunday afternoon heat so bad.

“We’ve been coming to the pool a lot this year,” Brasel said. “We have definitely taken advantage of our summer pool pass.”

And Brasel isn’t the only one; Sioux Falls Recreation Coordinator Jean Pearson says all of the Sioux Falls pools have seen an increase in both season pass sales and daily attendance.

But others would rather avoid the heat altogether. Becca and Allyssa Smith say they’ve been staying in the air conditioning this summer.

“We’ve been watching a lot of Netflix at home and taking advantage of our air conditioner,” Becca said.

On Sunday the Smith’s were looking for a change to their indoor routine as they ventured to the pool for the first time this summer.

“We’re going swimming today to try to beat the heat,” Allyssa said.

Everyone seems to be in agreement that hot weather is okay, as long as it’s only every once in a while.

“It would be nice if it was continuously only 70 degrees with only occasional 90 degree days,” Becca said.

And to get through this warm spell, Brasel is telling herself that school and cooler temperatures are only a few months away.
