After months of work, the 54th Annual Sioux Empire Home Show is ready for thousands of visitors. Starting Friday night you’ll be able to check out everything from bathroom fixtures to kitchen cabinets at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. And getting over 200 booths ready to go is no small task.
"Everything is scheduled months in advance to put this together and everybody gets a time slot so you can come in at this time and you have 'X' amount of days to put it up," Home Show Committee Chair Chuck Wiseman said.
While it’s been 54 years that doesn't mean each year comes without a new surprise or challenge.
"We will put some of the displays inside of the convention center that take the longest to set up. We will get them going, get them to build their booths and put their cabinets up, and get them going. And then we just kind of work our way to the loading dock. About three days later, we are ready for the show," Wiseman said.
Not only is it getting booths in their places, but also thinking about what will make the experience most enjoyable for everyone.
"We kind of have them scattered out that way. If you are coming to show, we want to make it so your competition isn't right across the aisle. So it makes it easier for you to come visit with them and not say, 'Jeez, I’m going to have to talk to that guy next too,' so it just kind of friendly business," Wiseman said.
Wiseman says they want the home show to feel like home: friendly and relaxed. But they also want to make sure each year brings something new and exciting.
"I come out here a lot myself and you know, I will see them put up the same wall but it's not the same thing on that wall so it is neat to see what new has come out from last year," Wiseman said.
The home show will run beginning Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can purchase tickets at the door for $7 a day or a weekend pass for $10.
