Homan Leads SF School District Vision In Final Year

August 25, 2014, 5:55 PM by Jared Ransom

Homan Leads SF School District Vision In Final Year
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

The Sioux Falls School District is moving forward with a long list of goals for this year, and the one leading the charge is hoping to see results before she retires.

"Across the time I've been superintendent has been the relentless and continued focus on making sure that we have multiple pathways and programs so that each student can succeed," Sioux Falls Superintendent Pam Homan said.

The district's mission statement is to educate and prepare each student to succeed in a changing world, and Homan says that each year is organized to meet this goal.

"It was birthed in my very first board retreat 11 years ago with the school board, and so my job as superintendent was to see that we live and breathe that mission every day," Homan said.

Throughout this coming year, district staff members will focus on ways to improve student and staff achievement, using more technology in the classroom, while increasing parent and community involvement.

"Ultimately, we believe we'll realize success when 100 percent of our students graduate. So, this year, out of that cohort of 1,500 and some students, 128 did not graduate, and we won't rest until we know that we have found a pathway," Homan said.

Homan says that she will always be the biggest cheerleader for the Sioux Falls School District, and her one hope is that the district continues to succeed in the path that she and the school board have laid out.

"For me, it's a matter of that the multiple pathways in place would continue and grow and that I don't care that anyone remembers I was ever here. I just want all of those programs to be anchored and stay for students," Homan said.

The Sioux Falls School Board is planning to address this year's goals at Monday's school board meeting. Members also begin the search for Homan's replacement in executive session after the meeting.
