Holiday Weekend Rain Needed

May 22, 2014, 5:25 PM by Scot Mundt

Holiday Weekend Rain Needed

Another dry day in eastern South Dakota and it's starting to take its toll.  Many areas across KELOLAND can use some rain, and fast.

Since the beginning of the year, you can see total precip amounts range from three inches in Mitchell to as much as six and a third in Pine Ridge.  Many areas are in the three to four inch range.

Compared to average, the only places that are above average are Pine Ridge, by just over an inch.  Valentine and Sisseton are also above average, by about a tenth of an inch.  Sioux Falls is the most below average, by over four inches, and then the amount below average trails off to two to three inches below average for much South Dakota.

Computer models are spitting out amounts of near a third of an inch in Aberdeen to just over an inch in Rapid City.  Of course, getting hit with a thunderstorm tends to lead to high rain amounts.

So, even though rain is in the forecast for the holiday weekend, we can use it.
