The Downtown Sioux Falls skyline is evolving. It's grown with additions such as CNA Surety and Cherapa Place along the Big Sioux River. And next fall the Hilton Garden Inn will open its doors just south of east 8th Street.
Ten years ago, the area was not the first place people thought of for new developments. Over the years we've seen a few things pop up, kind of making this the new downtown.
This hotel has been in the works for the past couple of years. And when it's done, officials say it will compliment and add value to the downtown skyline.
For the first time, we're seeing satellite imaging and 3D modeling used to reveal the new Sioux Falls skyline as the Downtown Hilton Garden Inn is developed. The $25 million development includes a five-story building with 136 rooms and 7,000 square feet of conference space. It will also be the first hotel in Sioux Falls to have underground parking.
This project will also fit in with the River Greenway. When the hotel opens, it will overlook the greenway and boast plenty of outdoor seating.
Tonight on KELOLAND News, we'll talk with officials from Hegg Companies to explain how the project is moving forward even though it seems the railroad switchyard is staying for a while.
