High Winds Create Travel Problems

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

The state is warning drivers traveling in high-profile vehicles that the high winds could create problems as they travel across South Dakota.

The Department of Transportation says people driving semis, trucks, buses and SUVs need to be careful.  Already on Thursday, there have been reports of semis and other vehicles tipping over on and along the road.  Viewer Jerid Maskovich shared a photo of a couple of semis that tipped on Interstate 90 west of Murdo on Thursday.

The winds have also pushed trees onto highways and blown down power lines and poles.

Wind gusts in the 70 mile per hour range and above are being reported from Rapid City to Pierre.

For information on accidents and temporary road closures due to the wind, check Safe Travel USA or dial 511.
