High School Students Step Up For Brandon Family

February 16, 2014, 5:30 PM by Leland Steva

High School Students Step Up For Brandon Family
BRANDON, SD -

Jon and Anne Peters are both teachers in Brandon. Last year using their savings and donations from friends and family, the Peters family raised $15,000 to adopt two-year old Gracie.

Due to fraudulent activities by the adoption agency, the money was lost and Gracie still lives thousands of miles away. Jon helped moved Gracie to a different orphanage in Haiti, and the family is trying to raise the money again. The Brandon Student Council put together the "Footloose Dance" where all the profits went to the Peters family. Over 100 students danced the night away, and the Peters family is amazed with the support they have received from the students.

“It's a giant blessing. There's nothing to living in a small town and having people step up when things get kind of crummy like this and it's just really cool, especially to see the kids do it and want to do it being that it's a student council and they took this on themselves,” Peters said.

The dance raised over 500 dollars for the Peters family.
