Herseth Sandlin To Decide Political Future By Summer

Herseth Sandlin To Decide Political Future By Summer
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Former South Dakota Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin says she will make a decision about running for statewide office yet this spring or early this summer.

Herseth Sandlin is being mentioned as a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by Senator Tim Johnson who announced last month that he will not run for re-election in 2014.

Johnson’s son, U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson, is also rumored to be a potential candidate for the Democratic nomination but has repeatedly said he will not talk about politics while he is currently serving as the U.S. Attorney for South Dakota.

Herseth Sandlin currently works as General Counsel for Raven Industries in Sioux Falls.

“I am very grateful for the encouragement I’ve been receiving in recent weeks to run for public office again.  This is going to be a difficult decision because while I loved serving South Dakota, I also love my work at Raven Industries, and Max, Zachary and I are thoroughly enjoying our family life in Sioux Falls,” Herseth Sandlin said in a statement to KELOLAND News.

“I would prefer to make this decision much later in the year, but I’m going to try to do so yet this spring or early summer,” Herseth Sandlin added.

Former Republican South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds is the only announced candidate for the state’s 2014 U.S. Senate race.
