LYON COUNTY, IOWA -
South Dakota's Democratic candidate for Governor is taking a firm stand against a northwest Iowa casino.
Scott Heidepriem says he'll do whatever he can to stop South Dakota money from flowing across state lines.
On the grounds of the Lyon County, Iowa, casino, work is moving forward on the casino-resort that is slated to open next summer. And on the edge of the property is where Heidepriem announced his plans, if he's elected governor. He says he'll form a task force with one goal: to find any way possible to keep money from flowing from South Dakota to Iowa.
"I will not stop until we address this threat at our border. It is that important," Heidepriem said.
Heidepriem says there is now no stopping the casino, but moves can be made to keep money in South Dakota. He estimates the tax revenue that will be lost from South Dakota would be enough to build a new events center in Sioux Falls.
