Heavy Snow Could Create Bad Road Conditions

Snow is covering the roads and more is expected throughout much of KELOLAND on Wednesday. This means, bad road conditions could be ahead.

Our KELOLAND Weather team says many areas will get three to six inches of snow with this system. Read the latest update from the Storm Center.

Because of this, South Dakota State officials are cautioning drivers. They say the heavy snow, strong winds, cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills could create hazardous travel conditions through Wednesday evening.

Be sure to check out our KELOLAND Closeline for delays, cancellations and closures before leaving your home.

And although the snow will stop Wednesday night, extremely cold air is on the way. Our meteorologists say highs by Friday will struggle just to hit zero.

If you must travel, officials pass along these tips to stay safe:

  • Wear your seatbelt.
  • Travel during the day.
  • Drive with your headlights on.
  • Use highly-traveled roads and highways.
  • Keep family and friends informed of your travel schedule and route.
  • Call 511 or visit Safe Travel USA for road conditions.
  • Keep a winter weather survival kit in your car.
  • Travel with a charged cell phone.
