A man wanted for rape since January is now in custody.
Lincoln County Sheriff Dennis Johnson says 19-year-old Obadia David Loyira was arrested at the Minnehaha County Jail when he turned himself in on an unrelated warrant.
Back in January, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office received a sexual assault report from a 12-year-old girl at Avera McKennan. The victim told investigators that Loyira took her to a Harrisburg home on January 15, raped her and then took pictures with his cell phone. That's when authorities began their investigation.
After taking out a search warrant for the house, a Lincoln County detective talked with Loyira and he admitted he had sex with the 12-year-old girl, but investigators were still trying to piece the case together and didn't arrest him.
Loyira was one of three suspects who was at the Harrisburg home when the alleged crimes took place.
The two other suspects in the case have already been arrested. 20-year-old Elizio Kalimba of Sioux Falls is awaiting trial and is currently in the Minnehaha County Jail. A case against a 16-year-old Iowa boy has already been resolved in juvenile court.
Loyira is being held on $50,000 cash bond. He'll be in court October 28.
