Gusty Winds Tough On Truck Drivers

October 18, 2012, 5:25 PM

Gusty Winds Tough On Truck Drivers
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Wicked fall winds were blowing across KELOLAND on Thursday.

We caught up with a semi driver who braved the winds and made the trip across South Dakota. He says he had several close calls.

It's really strong winds halfway across the state. There were four or five trucks rolled over, a couple small trailers,” a truck driver said.

With rollovers a common sight on many highways, many drivers were pulling over at truck stops to ride out the wind gusts.

“I’ve got a very light load and I'm carrying maybe 6,000 lbs and I’m being tossed around. So be careful. You aren’t going no where being dead so slow down and be careful,” truck driver Harold Evans said.

Other truckers we talked to say they were slowing down to 45 miles per hour on I-90.
