RAPID CITY, SD -
Officials will break ground Saturday on a memorial honoring two fallen Rapid City police officers.
Officers J. Ryan McCandless and Nick Armstrong died of injuries after being shot Aug. 2 while performing a routine stop. Officer Tim Doyle was injured but has since returned to duty.
A makeshift memorial currently stands at Greenbriar and East Anamosa streets, where the two were shot down.
The New Beginnings Baptist Church rallied the community to raise money for the memorial, a more than 4-foot-tall granite monument that's roughly shaped like an officer's badge.
A dedication is planned for Nov. 13.
