Great Plains Zoo Receives National Accreditation

SIOUX FALLS, SD -
Sioux Falls' Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum has been granted accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
Fewer than 10 percent of the approximately 2,400 animal exhibitors in the United States are AZA accredited.
To receive the honor, the Great Plains Zoo had to go through a rigorous process including an onsite inspection and interviews.
AZA Executive Director Kristin Vehrs says many AZA institutions will only exchange animals with and work on programs with other AZA institutions.
The zoo will have to go through the same process every five years.
