A Pine Ridge woman accused of causing the death of her infant grandson has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Fifty-one-year-old Cheryl Jealous of Him initially faced a murder charge in the April 2013 death of a 17-month-old boy in Pine Ridge. U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says Jealous of Him was caring for the boy and beat him while drunk.
She was convicted of felony child abuse and neglect. Johnson says she will be on supervised release for three years following her prison term, and will have to pay nearly $14,000 in restitution to the South Dakota Crime Victims' Compensation Program.
