Plans are being made to dispose of livestock that died during a blizzard in western KELOLAND.
Tens of thousands of cattle died in the storm and now producers are completing the grim task of disposing of the animals.
In Pennington County, pits are being dug that will be open to all producers free of charge. The two locations will be announced on Monday, October 14.
Gov. Dennis Daugaard has signed an executive order waiving the standard 36-hour disposal requirement. The waiver will remain in effect until October 25.
Ranchers are reminded to document all livestock losses with pictures, vaccination and hauling receipts. Third-party verification is recommended.
