Gardenhire Graduates From SMSU

May 7, 2012, 10:00 PM by Don Jorgensen

Gardenhire Graduates From SMSU

You probably don't know the name Tara Gardenhire, but chances are you probably know her dad.

"Actually my dad came to visit here and it was the only college I looked at," Tara said.

Her dad is Ron Gardenhire, manager of the Minnesota Twins.  This past weekend, he got a chance to watch his youngest daughter graduate from college at SMSU.

"It's not very far from the Twin Cities; she needs to get away on her own.  The school has been fantastic, taking care of her.  Some of the teachers and counselors have been unbelievable and what a great experience.  I'm very proud," Ron said.

Ron says they decided this was the right school for Tara after visiting one time.

"We actually did a caravan through here.  I came through, we did something for the baseball team and I saw the school and was able to walk around a little bit and I immediately thought of her," Ron said.

"We have a really good relationship.  He's really encouraging.  I don't think I could have gone this far without him and my mom," Tara said.

And now that Tara has earned her college degree, what does dad want to her to do with it?

"Get to work and pay me back all the money she owes me, " Ron said jokingly.

Tara Gardenhire earned her bachelor of science degree in physical education with an emphasis on recreational activities.  She says she doesn't know what her future holds for right now, but hopes to find a job soon.
