South Dakotans are carrying concealed guns at a record pace. That’s according to Secretary of State Jason Gant.
He says his office is seeing a trend of new and renewed concealed pistol permits that’s breaking all previous records at an unprecedented rate.
During the month of February, more than 5,300 permits were issued. That’s more than January of this year when 4,622 permits were issued. That month was also record-breaking at the time.
And these numbers are significantly higher than last year. In January 2012, 1,785 permits were issued and in February 2012 1,771 permits were issued.
Gant says pistol permits registrations and renewals have continually increased over the past three years.
