A fire near Rapid City has left a family of 10 without a home.
Emergency crews were called to a fire at a house on Bighorn Road around 7 a.m. Wednesday. The family, which includes eight kids, was eating breakfast when they noticed smoke. Everyone got out of the home okay but they left with just the clothes on their backs.
More than 10 agencies responded to the call. The home is set off the road so crews are having to navigate the 1/4 mile, narrow drive to get water to the fire. Pennington County Fire Administrator Denny Gordon says firefighters remain on the scene as of 11 a.m. MDT as they are still mopping up the scene.
The American Red Cross is helping the family with a place to stay. The agency will also help the family get connected to other community-based organizations.
A fund is set up to help. You can make donations to the Rondestvedt family fire fund at any First Interstate Branch.
