Memorial services have been scheduled for former South Dakota State University President Sherwood Berg, who died Sunday in Brookings at age 94.
Eidsness Funeral Home says the service for Berg is 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church. Visitation is 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the McCrory Gardens Education and Visitor Center.
Berg was born May 17, 1919, at Hendrum, Minn. He was president of SDSU from 1975-1984. The university credits him with "internationalizing" the campus, with programs set up in Syria, Botswana, Senegal and Mauritania, and the number of international students on campus growing.
Berg also was an early proponent of the reciprocity program with Minnesota, and he oversaw the groundwork for the first endowed chair for the university, the Ethel Austin Martin-Edward Moss Martin Chair in Human Nutrition.
