Freezing Rain Creates Slippery Spots In Eastern SD

Freezing Rain Creates Slippery Spots In Eastern SD
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

The freezing rain that fell Sunday morning created havoc for some drivers and walkers as they tried to get around.

The Highway Patrol says they responded to ten crashes in eastern South Dakota Sunday morning. Three of those crashes sent people to the hospital. And their biggest incident was near Elk Point where a semi rolled over. The driver received minor injuries.

People enjoying their Sunday morning downtown Sioux Falls say they were taking it slow to avoid falling. With temperatures just hovering around the freezing mark, some were taken by surprise by the ice.

“Just tell everybody to be careful because it is icy, Even though it's warming up there are still icy patches all over, especially driving,” Sioux Falls resident Dale Denoyer said.

The Highway Patrol says the number of calls slowed down through the afternoon as temperatures melted the ice.
