Millions of Americans can file their taxes for free online. Taxpayers Making $58,000 or Less Can Visit the IRS Free File website to prepare and e-file 2013 federal tax returns.
In addition to offering tax services for 70 percent of taxpayers, Free File also offers basic federal e-filing services with no income limitations. This basic e-filing service, called Free File Fillable Forms, allows taxpayers who are familiar with tax law and need no preparation assistance to complete and file their federal income tax electronically. There are no income limitations to use Free File Fillable Forms, which will be available starting January 31.
Free File has saved Americans $1.2 billion in tax preparation fees since it started in 2003.
There is also income tax preparation help available in Sioux Falls. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) offers free tax filing February 3-April 7. Certified volunteers will prepare basic tax returns for taxpayers with incomes less than $51,000. The walk-in clinics will be held at the Siouxland Main Library, Downtown Sioux Falls, on Mondays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and some Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information click here.
