Former Stampede Goalie Olkinuora Signs With Jets

Former Stampede goaltender Juho Olkinuora (You-ho, Olk-in-oar-ah) has signed an NHL entry level contract with the Winnipeg Jets. He has been assigned to the Jets top affiliate, the St. John’s IceCaps, of the AHL.

Olkinuora joins the Jets franchise just two years after he completed his USHL career in Sioux Falls. The Helsinki, Finland native went 14-13-0 with a 2.78 GAA and a .900 save percentage during the 2010-11 season.  Over his last 12 starts during the regular season, he earned a 9-3-0 record and allowed two goals or less in all but one of those contests.  During that stretch, he posted his first USHL shutout, stopping all 31 shots in a 4-0 win over the Green Bay Gamblers on March 19th, 2011.

Helped lead the Stampede to the Western Conference Finals while going 2-3-0 2.70 GAA and a .911 save percentage in five postseason games.

Most recently, Olkinuora spent the past two seasons playing between the pipes at the University of Denver. This past season, Olkinuora went 13-6-5 with a 2.35 GAA and a .927 save percentage in 24 games. He recorded three shutouts and was named to the Second Team All-WCHA.

The IceCaps return to action Tuesday night when they host the Portland Pirates, the top affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes.
