South Dakota’s former Secretary of Tourism and State Development, Richard Benda, has died of a gunshot wound.
A release from Gov. Dennis Daugaard’s office says Benda’s body was found early Tuesday near Lake Andes.
Daugaard issued this statement:
“My thoughts and prayers are with Rich’s family and friends. Although he never worked in my administration, I know many people who knew him and are shocked by this news. As is standard practice, law enforcement is treating the scene as a crime investigation. I would refer any questions as to that investigation to the Attorney General.”
Benda served as Secretary of Tourism from 2006 to 2010.
