Former Lawmaker Supports South-Side Walmart

February 18, 2014, 11:57 AM by Brady Mallory

Former Lawmaker Supports South-Side Walmart
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

A former South Dakota lawmaker says Sioux Falls is growing and he supports a new Walmart on the south side. That's why Gene Abdallah says he signed a letter supporting the development.

On Monday we told you about a new pro-Walmart campaign called Building a Better Sioux Falls. You may have received one of the letters, which list reasons why you should vote yes in April for the new store.

According to the finance report, the group was started in Arkansas and Walmart contributed a quarter of a million dollars to it.

Abdallah says he's not getting any money for his support, he just wants to see a store in south Sioux Falls.

"I live on the south end of town. I just see no reason why not. Why, why stop progress?" Abdallah said.

Tonight on KELOLAND News, we hear more from Abdallah and look at debates over Walmart in other communities.
