Former CASA Head Sentenced For Embezzlement

Former CASA Head Sentenced For Embezzlement
RAPID CITY, SD -

The former executive director of the Court Appointed Special Advocates program in Rapid City has been sentenced to probation and jail time for embezzlement.

Thirty-three-year-old Chad Catron was sentenced to five years of probation and 180 days in jail Friday. Circuit Judge Thomas Trimble suspended 90 days of the jail sentence and also fined him $2,500.

Catron pleaded guilty to aggravated grand theft in March. He has made full restitution of the $9,425 he embezzled from the local and state CASA programs. He took the money over an 18-month period before resigning in July 2013. Casa is a non-profit organization that advocates for neglected and abused children.

Because of his clean background, Catron's felony record will be sealed if he successfully completes probation.
