Former Candidate In Court For Election Law Charges

Former Candidate In Court For Election Law Charges
PIERRE, SD -

An independent candidate for U.S. Senate in South Dakota who failed to make the November ballot has made an initial court appearance in Pierre.

33-year-old Clayton Walker was present at the Hughes County courthouse Monday for the initial reading of charges filed against him. He has been accused of perjury and filing false documents.

Secretary of State Jason Gant had pulled Walker from the ballot after his nominating petitions were successfully challenged on grounds that they included unregistered voters and had other discrepancies.

No plea was entered on any of the charges. An arraignment hearing was set for August with Circuit Judge John Brown.

Republican Annette Bosworth was an unsuccessful candidate in the same race. She pleaded not guilty last week to 12 charges alleging she violated election laws.
