The Empire Hy-Vee is expecting large crowds starting Friday and will continue throughout the weekend as customers stock up on some traditional game time Super Bowl munchies.
"I really like the mini hotdogs and the cheese hamburger dip," Hy-Vee customer Reese Baier.
"Super Bowl is treated like a holiday, it's the second biggest food holiday for the year for us," Empire Hy-Vee Store Director Bob Trader said.
Millions are expected to tune in this Sunday to watch the Denver Broncos take on the Seattle Seahawks at MetLife stadium.
"Have some good clean fun, have some laughs and have some good food. We're going to be having some different kinds of soups and special breads and I know it's going to be a good time," Hy-Vee customer Dwight Wahl said.
According to IBT Media, some of the popular snack items include popcorn, nuts and pretzels throughout the U.S. around 8.2 million pounds of tortilla chips will be consumed.
"To attract those consumers, we have chips and soft drinks and everything else that we advertise in our weekly circular and they are usually some of the best deals of the year because just like the retailer. The manufacturers look at that event and see that's when we want to move that product too." Trader said.
But others are looking forward to the ads.
"We like the food and the commercials. Budweiser would be one of my favorites probably; they always have good commercials and just the Super Bowl snacks. We're there to watch football and drink a couple of beers," Baier said.
"We'll be ready and it's pretty predictable every year so we're staffed for it and have the product for it and do our best to satisfy everybody's needs," Trader said.
