A Flandreau, South Dakota, man died in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 near Brookings Sunday night.
Authorities say the two vehicles were traveling south on I-29 when the crash happened. Preliminary reports show 81-year-old Leslie James Schrecengost's vehicle was hit from behind by another vehicle. The impact forced Schrecengost's 2000 Ford Taurus into the ditch near an off-ramp.
Authorities say Schrecengost was not wearing a seat belt and died from the injuries he received in the crash.
The other vehicle, a 2011 Ford F-250 pickup, was driven by William Carl Dixon of Estill Springs, Tennessee. Authorities say Dixon and a passenger received minor injuries in the crash after the pickup rolled when it hit Schrecengost's car. Authorities say both men were wearing seat belts.
State officials say the South Dakota Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
