Firework Safety Tips Before The 4th Of July Weekend
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

With the upcoming 4th of July holiday, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like send a reminder of the City firework ordinances.

Use of fireworks in the City are limited to the non- audible, non-projectile kind. Examples of those prohibited:

  • Bottle Rockets
  • Roman Candles
  • Parachutes

Fireworks may not be used in public sidewalks, streets or alleyways. They are also prohibited on private property unless given permission by the owner.

The discharge of fireworks in the city is illegal and results in a fine of $200 and/or 30 days in jail.

If you travel outside the City, remember to:

  • Never allow children to play or ignite fireworks
  • Read and follow instructions
  • Make sure others are a safe distance away before lighting fireworks
  • Only use smooth, flat surfaces. Keep away from buildings, dry leaves, grass and flammable materials

Keep a bucket of water nearby
