Sioux Falls firefighters have to respond to emergency calls no matter the temperature.
On Monday morning, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue crews were called to a home near 12th Street and Bahnson Avenue. Firefighters quickly put out the fire burning over a patio and the deck attached to the house. Crews remained on scene for several hours, removing smoldering insulation.
At the end of 1973, crews fought a large fire at the Sioux Falls Coliseum in downtown when it was 12 degrees below zero.
Their efforts, and a thick fire wall, kept the fire from getting to the auditorium in the building. But the fire did force the cancellation of the Sioux Empire Farm Show that year.
